“Curator House” Biodiversity Centre

Project Type

hospitality design

Date

2024, semester 2

This project involved designing an innovative “Curator House” Biodiversity Centre with a secondary function for the Lapalala Wilderness School in Limpopo, South Africa, which opened a new building on November 26, 2022. The design required the application of sustainable and vernacular strategies, respecting the existing architecture and seamlessly blending with the natural flow and style of the campus. This additional phase of the project demanded a comprehensive approach, from concept development to final design, incorporating suitable finishes and materials from established suppliers. It involved in-depth analysis of client needs, site constraints, and existing architecture, ensuring the solutions were contextually relevant and sustainable. Key objectives included understanding client requirements, adapting to the site’s unique characteristics, and adhering to a set budget while prioritizing eco-friendly materials and design choices. The project aimed to balance functionality, sustainability, and aesthetic appeal.
